Hi, I’m Ellie Hart 👋
The self-taught home cook behind HowToCookEasily — and living proof that anyone can learn to cook.
I wasn’t born knowing how to cook. Far from it. In my first tiny apartment I genuinely set off the smoke alarm making toast, boiled pasta into glue, and served friends chicken so dry it needed a glass of water per bite. I was convinced some people were just “kitchen people” — and I wasn’t one of them.
Turns out that’s completely wrong. Cooking isn’t a talent you’re born with; it’s a handful of simple techniques and knowing a few key numbers — the right temperature, the right time, the right visual cue. Once someone finally explained those to me without the fuss and the fancy words, everything clicked. Dinner stopped being stressful and started being genuinely fun.
Why I started HowToCookEasily
I started this site because I remember exactly how it feels to be intimidated by a raw chicken breast. Every guide here is the explanation I wish someone had given me back then — patient, jargon-free, and specific enough that you can’t get it wrong. I test the methods in my own ordinary home kitchen (no restaurant equipment, no rare ingredients) until they work every single time.
Beyond the kitchen
When I’m not testing how many ways you can cook an egg, I’m usually hunting down the easiest possible version of a dish everyone thinks is “too hard,” or answering reader questions — which are honestly my favorite part. If you ever get stuck, reach out. There’s no such thing as a silly cooking question here.
